On this page, you'll find information on how to use the Freewaves™ products on Wavy Hair and on Straight Hair

Our silicone-free haircare products may initially feel less silky, but this is a sign of your hair's natural texture being restored. Your hair should feel lighter after the first wash. Without silicones coating the strands, your hair can breathe, absorb moisture, and retain hydration better, leading to healthier hair over time. Trust the process!

How to use for wavy hair

    1. - Wash scalp with fingertips; don’t use nails because nails could damage our scalp.
      - (For wavy hair, we suggest washing hair not more than twice a week, to avoid drying out the hair. Gradually extend wash cycle to once every 3 days.)
      - Use a scalp brush once a week to deep clean and stimulate the scalp.
      .
    2. - Apply conditioner to hair strands: focus on mid-lengths to the ends; avoid roots.
      - Use a wide-toothed comb to gently detangle hair – start with the ends and work our way up.
      - Leave conditioner on for a few minutes before rinsing.
      - Don't rinse completely. Leave a little conditioner on the hair to keep the glide.
      .
    3. - Squeeze hair with hands to remove excess water.
      - Shake the hydration leave-in before use.
      - Smooth product onto the still soaking wet hair.
      .
    4. - Apply a small amount* of protein leave-in evenly to wet hair.
      - Then scrunch hair upwards to form waves. (See motion in 1:15 of video.)
      - Plop with a hair wrap or 100% cotton T-shirt.
      * Your hair may like more protein. But to avoid protein overload, it's a good idea to start with a small amount. Then gradually increase to find the sweet spot that works the best for your hair.
      .
    5. - Apply gel to damp hair and scrunch into waves upwards again.
      - Diffuse** or air dry to finish.
      - (Some users like to keep the gel in the refrigerator and scrunch cold refreshing gel onto damp hair.)
** See video at the bottom of the page on how to diffuse.

How to refresh on non-wash days

Method 1: Spray hair wet with water. Emulsify some step 2 (conditioner) with water on hands and then scrunch into hair.

Method 2: Spray the hair wet with water and go straight to step 5 – scrunch hair with a small amount of gel.

How to use for straight hair

These products are great for straight hair too. Use them for healthier scalp and hair! If you haven’t treated your hair with chemicals, steps 1 – 3 will help your hair and scalp restore its prime health. Simply follow steps 1 – 3 for shampoo, conditioner, and hydration leave-in.

If your hair is damaged from chemical treatments or frequent use of heat tools, add on step 4 to restore protein.

    Directions

Follow the above wavy hair video and instructions for steps 1–3.

Apply a small amount* of protein leave-in like you would the hydration leave-in, smooth it onto your hair downwards. (See below GIF)

Wrap hair up in towel to dry.

Alert: Whatever you do, do not rub hair with a towel to dry it. Our hair is much more fragile when it is wet. Friction from a towel can really harm our hair strands.

    How to diffuse

Place wavy hair gently onto the diffuser bowl BEFORE turning on the hair dryer to low/medium heat and speed.

Turn hair dryer off BEFORE releasing hair from diffuser bowl.

This will minimise frizz and maximise waves.
